Looking at my latest blog posts it’s looking a lot like a “travel” site, rather than a minimalist journey site. Now there are reasons for this as I’ve been traveling a bit this summer (only short trips) and my heart these days have been focused more on future travels than decluttering my life.
The last few years, I’ve been doing really good. I’ve been focused, been counting the items leaving the house, and I have slowly but surely seen the result of my decluttering efforts.
This year! Not so much 😦
I could say, it’s been quite the opposite… I’ve done nothing, nada, zilch on the declutter front, and it’s time, it is TIME to get with the program.
I figured that September is a good a month as any, to get back on the declutter wagon. You know, put a little focus into it, just to get the ball rolling!
So, this is what I’m thinking… Why not make myself a tiny 21 day challenge, sort of like I did tried earlier this year, with my blog writing. But a declutter challenge, this time around!
So what is it going to be? Well, I could off course give myself a hairy goal of oodles of things out the door… but as the intention of this is to get back into to groove of things (rather than set myself up for failure), I’m going to do tiny steps… tiny, tiny steps, just to make sure I have a chance, to get myself back into the habit.
So here it is! My goals for this challenge:
- I will dedicate at least 15 minutes a day to decluttering, every day, without fail.
- At the end of each week, I will give you an update of what went out-the-door.
- Out-the-door – hopefully 231 items. Why 231? Well… even thought I’m going for tiny steps, I shouldn’t make it too easy on myself.. should I? I was trying to find the perfect number of items out-the-door and thought.. hey.. why not do a kind of mini version of The Minimalists MinsGame, that should give me just enough challenge. Declutter the amount of items corresponding with the day. Day 1 = 1 item, day 2 = 2 items and so on up to day 21 = 21 items. Total = 231.
And I’m starting Monday.
Monday marks the beginning of the week, and I figured that would be a great day to start it all up 🙂
Want to join me, on my 21 day challenge, my teensy weensy MinsGame?
Yes! Cool! Let me know and we can do it together!
Caught you off guard? Just jump in any day… anything out-the-door, is golden 🙂
I’ll join you!
I’m going to start today and only go for 14 days. We are going on a probate/estate trip for my father-in-law for what would be days 15-21. I’m also going to do it as a count down so that the day before we leave is only one item. The games we play with our own minds!!

How cool, that you are joining in 🙂 and I might join you in the “reversed” version some, as I will probably mix the days up a little, depending on what I declutter from day to day… I’m just going to be happy if I manage the 231 items all together… You’re right about the games we play 😉
I hope all goes ok on your trip.

Thanks! A rental property has been on the market for almost 6 months with no offers. I suspect the realty/property managing company isn’t trying to sell it. They will lose the monthly profit. We also saw an airbnb ad for the area that looks like it. Maybe the management company is the renter and is making much more by renting it out that way. Only way to know is to go there. Hopefully I’m wrong. Hubby always thinks I’m too quick to suspect foul play!

Ouch… I hope you guys figure it out, and get it sorted. AND get the property rented the right way. Good luck…

I’m joining in! But I need to get rid of a lot more than 231 items so maybe I’ll double or triple each day! I haven’t been counting but I’ll start tomorrow 🙂

Ok wow, 231 items! That sounds like a huge challenge for even us. We love this idea.. Do you sell items online that you declutter?

I’m a bit curious myself if I’ll manage the 231 items, but I’m sure gonna try 😉
Mostly I give my stuff away, I haven’t sold much. For me the important thing is to get it out of the house, rather than earn money on it.
I do however have one or two things I might try to sell down the line, mostly because it’s stuff that is worth quite a bit of money, and it would be silly to not try to recoup some. But even this stuff… if I knew someone who desperately needed it, I might consider just giving it away…
I*m really not in it for the money, I just want to end up with an uncluttered home 🙂

That’s awesome Anne 🙂 Curbza is an inventory and buy and sell app that empowers people to inventory their stuff on the app to record what they have, and when you decide to get rid of something you can send it to a marketplace. If you’re interested in trying the app to sell any of your goods, it might be a good opportunity to collab! We’re always looking for guest bloggers and your blog is great.

I’ve been looking a little at the website.. and it looks like an interesting product, I live in Norway so probably not to many marked places available for us yet? From your screen-dumps it looks like most are in Canada
But regardless of marked places available, I will definitely take a look at it. The inventory part intrigues me 🙂

I started my ’15’ minutes at about 6pm and I just took a break now at almost 9pm. I have a massive bag of clothes for the clothes bank and two big bags of old make-up and just complete junk! Thanks to all you declutterers for getting me going!

It sure helps, when you have someone you need to “report” to… it’s like.. you just have to keep it up, no slacking “allowed” 😉 And having join me even.. then I’m REALLY accountable 🙂

An accountability partner is the ONLY way I’ve achieved my goals over the years. It doesn’t matter how smart I think I am, I have a lot going on in my life (just like everyone else) so that partner reminds me that nothing gets done regardless of how busy I am, if I don’t take care of it.
