I mentioned a couple of days ago that it is time for a new 21 day challenge. A paper challenge this time.
I figured that since it’s a challenge, I will need a few rules/goals. How else would you guys know if I’m keeping up my end of this 😉
Rules/goals:
- I will dedicate at least 60 minutes a day (yes, every day) to sorting out my paper monster.
- I will update you all on a regular basis, on what I’m up to, and on how much has gone “out-the-door” (read: trash pile) 😉
- Out-the-door – I’m hoping that about 90% of all my papers will be shredded at the end of it all. Why not a hundred? Since there are some papers that we need to keep physical versions of, I guess I’ll be keeping those. Since I don’t know how many there are of these, I’m going with the “hopefully 90% out-the-door” 😉 As you can see from the piles below.. it’s not easy to say exactly how much will be going out-the-door!
When do we start?
Tomorrow is a god a day as any to start, so I’ll see you then?
Melinda, you ready?
I need to jump on this like an over-sugared kid in a bouncy house. I’ll definitely join you tho I’m pondering if 60 minutes will work for me. Thirty might be my number. Thanks for the inspiration!

LOL, I understand what you your talking about, I’m right there with you 🙂
30 minutes sounds like serious commitment, whatever many minutes you can do this.. I have no doubt you’ll be rocking it! I wish I didn’t need my 60 but I do 😦
I can’t wait to get started.. and see the stuff fly out of here (preferable with a rocket attached) and never ever come back!
I’m all ready for tomorrow 🙂

Good luck getting that paper monster under control.
My grandmother died with her ping-pong table in the basement covered with stacks and stacks of magazines that she intended to read “someday” . . . but new magazines arrived all the time so she never got around to it.
My parents died with piles and piles of magazines on photography, genealogy, popular science, woodworking, etc., sitting around.
I keep one small basket of magazines next to the recliner which is purged on a regular basis. Aah . . . that’s better!

Thanks Nancy, I’m sure it will be a breeze… well not really.. but it will be done 😉
I have a small basket myself sitting next to my sofa, with whatever random magazines that enters the house. There aren’t many of them as I pretty much quit buying magazines a long time ago.
I still have about a couple of dozen hanging around, which I will go trough as soon as this paper run is over. What I do, when I go trough them is that if I find an articles/pictures/idea that I would like to keep a little longer, I will tear the pages out and put them into a small box I have especially for that purpose.
My goal is to never have more one small box of tear-outs, if it gets filled, I will go through and toss out the no longer relevant stuff. I enjoy doing it this way ans I every now and then will sit down and rummage through the tear-outs to look for inspiration. If I find an article/picture/idea that no longer tickles my fancy, in the trash it goes 🙂

I did a major declutter of my paper about 2 years ago now… And the thought was that I would keep up on it… Yeah… about that…
So, I should be joining you, but I’m not sure I can commit 60 minutes a day… Maybe 60 minutes a week? I’ll take a look at my stacks of paper this weekend and see how I feel about it. Good luck! And I look forward to seeing the piles of shredded paper leaving your house!

Welcome to the party! 60 minutes a week is awesome 🙂 I wish that’s all it would take me
I can’t wait to see the piles leaving my house either, I’m absolutely chopping at the bits to see that happen 🙂
Go grab that stack, and we will get it all done, together. See you tomorrow…

My husband brought a shredder yesterday, I should join you. An hour a day is too much for me at the moment, but 60 mins a week should clear the backlog. What I need is a good routine to stop it building up.

60 minutes a week to clear the backlog, is great. Welcome to the party 🙂
I have collected quite a bit of paper for scanning over the years, which is why I will be needing the 60 minutes a day, it’s time to get rid off the piles, once and for all!!! 😉
Some of the stuff is from me having lived abroad, and I don’t know how much I need to save (taxes, expatriate papers etc).. so I’m just scanning the lot of it to be safe (at least it will be a data file ready for future delete, rather than ring binders lounging around the house).
+ I’m scanning some “sentimental” stuff, like stuff from my company, as it’s fun to go back to see where I worked and what I did when I started out.
So yeah.. I’m “keeping” more than I need, and I know that, but as a computer file.. they won’t take up to much space, it will just take me a minute to get them all “that small” 😉

Paper. Sighs. Oh no – not that! I will see if you survive and then maybe do my own sea of paperwork. Good luck!

LOL, I will survive, I will SURVIVE!! Hmm, isn’t there a song in there somewhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZGwHtGBZJU
But I get why you’ll be wanting to hang around to see if I manage to crawl my way back out of my pile.. before you commit 😉

Maybe after Thanksgiving weekend I will jump in. I recently filled a few bags with papers as I was working through my living room, hoping to deal with them later. I’ll pull one or two out on Sunday or Monday and see if I can start tackling them!

I think leaving it for after Thanks giving was a smart idea.. Got to get all the family celebrations done first. And I also like your idea of collecting the papers, stuffing them into a few bags while your are working through your rooms. That way, you’ll get them all in one place. I think that’s a wonderful way to go about it 🙂

Yep! It helps to have it all together. (Even though I don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere when I’m just stuffing things in bags! LOL!)

Hey! At least you are getting all your papers into one pile!!!
Most of us have the stuff spread all over.. which makes it impossible to find stuff at times. You just have to search your pile.. and presto, there it was… exactly what you were looking for 😀

LOL.. yep! Sometimes I have to dig into the pile and actually, I’m always surprised that I do find what I’m looking for.
