As I mentioned last weekend I would start my pseudo packing party in my bathroom. Following the rules of my version of the packing party, I would pack up on Fridays, and unpack on Mondays. Well, I have to admit, I’ve cheated (yes already)… I was so antsy to get started I packed up my bathroom Tuesday this week π
I boxed up most of everything, with the exception of items like hair dryer, laundry bin, trash bin, weight scale, toilet brush holder, floor mat as these are things I knew I would use during the week.
I kept out one towel for me, one guest towel, toothbrush and paste, hand soap, my home made shampoo and conditioner, body oil and face oil (also home made), contact lenses, vitamins I take daily, one bottle of liquid bubbly bath soap (which I have used up already) and one bottle of body lotion I’m trying to use up. Β Oh yeah, and the jar I collect plastic in, since I now recycle this after my plastic challenge.
I never really had all that much in my bathroom to start out (as you can see from my packed away stuff below), but I have to say… it’s been freeing living with just about nothing in my bathroom. So much so, that I have decided that I most likely will not unpack all my stuff tomorrow. There are a couple of things I will add back, like a few towels, the basket I keep all my laundry stuff and soap in, a couple of small grooming items and a small jewellery box.
Everything else I will keep packet away and only pull out as I need them over the next few months. I already know a few items that I have decided will not make it through this round, so that will go out-the-door within the next days.
Below are a few picturesΒ of a cleared out bathroom.. unfortunately I forgot to do a before picture. I couldΒ off course pull everything out, just to take a “before” picture… but nope, that’s not going to happen π You will just have to make do.
Now for my partners “in crime” π
- Moving Forward is doing her cupboards, following my lead on what rooms to attack π Check out her bathroom job.
- All-Round Better me – is travelling right now, but might join in when she is back…?
- How To Be MyselfΒ – might do a “light browse”, with my “moving test” questions in mind?
- Free but fun – are moving in May, so they are knee deep into decluttering already.
Next room – bedroom anyone?
Well done! This is super inspiring! I am back now from my work trip, so time to get started! I’ll try and get something done this week. π

Thank you! Yeah, I really like my bathroom. When the house was buildt I spent quite some time finding the right tiles and furniture so that it would look nice π its not all that big (around 5 square metres or so) but it has everything it need including room for washer/dryer (no separate laundry room).
I’m doing my master bedroom. I do have a guestroom/office, but I’m currently using that to store my “packed” stuff in, so that will probably be the last room I’ll do (unless I off course can’t find it for all the boxes) π

Starting in the room you have the least is a good way to build momentum. I could probably pack everything in my bathroom into one of those plastic bags from the grocery store with the exception of the case of toilet paper I just bought for the year. I do have to admit that I had pared way down both before and after my move in October.

That’s what I was thinking too π I have already pared down quite a bit last year (I keep my big stach of toilet paper in my guestroom cabinet) and that box u see isn’t really all that big.. Still hoping to “loose” a few more items though π Now on for the bedroom, another room that is not to bad clutter wise…

I have a similar bottle of body lotion I’m trying to use up! This is such a good place to start in as it seems you’re relatively certain about what you know you’ll use in the bathroom and what you won’t. Such a great motivator for me to keep going with my minimalist journey (which has been slightly neglected over the past couple of months). Well done π

Yes, those pesky bottles of stuff we are forever trying to use up π Last year I got rid of a lot from the bathroom, and I didn’t really think I had much left, except stuff to use up”, until I took a long hard look, during this packing party, realising that there is NO way I will manage to use some of the items up, in like… forever… So believe it or not.. I now have another pile (OK a small pile) of stuff to give away to anyone who wants hair and lotion stuff π Not sure how I will do the showing of the “loot”.. as I’m currently just piling up anything I want to get rid of in a heap in my guest room.. Oh well.. I’m sure I’ll come up with something π

That’s such a good point! I thought I’d used up a lot of stuff but then I get given more as gifts and it just keeps on going. If your items are unopened perhaps you could give them away to charity?

I think its kinda half and half on used/unused so will check with family members for some , great idea for the unused, I’ll look into that π

I have two or three areas I would love to try this technique on, one being the bathroom. This is a great idea!
