It’s day eight of this years first 21 day declutter challenge.
It’s been a while (again) since my last post and there is a reason, why I’ve been on the quiet side.
My bestie from Houston (well US altogether) had to come over to Stavanger for a few days for work/meetings/seminar. He added a couple of days to his trip, to hang out with me π
It turned out that there was quite a few people from our Houston office who was going to the same arrangement, so last week was filled with loads of fun, not only hanging out with my best friend but also hanging out with some of my former colleagues from my Houston days.
To clear up the house for the visit, I tucked all my small declutter projects back into cabinets and drawers, and now that I have the house for myself.. it’s time to bring them all back out in the open π
I decided to start with one easy task, hoping to get my total past the 500 mark.
Today it’s all about pens and paper!
I collected all my pens and coloring pencils in one “big” pile, and I found out I had a lot. A lot I no longer use, aΒ lot of duplicates and some that was just broken… all in all.. I had way more than I could possible need.
Not only did I have loads of pens and pencils. Turns out I might be a tiny bit of a journal, post it note, paper pad and notebook hoarder as well!
So guess what? I decided to say bye, bye to a few on them.
Where are they going? Let’s just say, I have an awesome neighbor with two kids who will happily take them off my hand π
Here we are – 59 pens/pencils
and 24 notebook/post-it pads/journals
That’s 83 items leaving the house!Β
WhichΒ brings me to the grand total of = 570 (so far π )
I know I’m taking my own sweet time on this challenge, and at this rate it might be summer before I’m done. But.. you know what? As long as the result is stuff leaving the premises, never to be seen again… I’m good with it taking a while π
And hey, you never know.. before I’m done with this challenge, I might be hitting a 1000 (a girl can wish, right) π
Glad you had a fun week AND got some decluttering done. Like you, I have lots of pens, pencils, and notebooks . . . but maybe not quite as many as you. π

The scary thing? I still have quite a bundle as you can see from my answer to Gilly. I guess I need to work at that particular pile again.. one day.. right now I’m pretty happy to have reduced the pile at least by a few percent π

Wow, girl, we have the same hoarding likes!! I always have stacks of paper notebooks, journals, whatever laying around! And I’m too scared to gather ALL my pens, markers, etc in 1 place! The table would probably collapse!

it won’t collapse – I can attest that you can have A LOT of pens and pencils before that happens!

I know what you mean. At least after having gathered them all for the reduction, I now have them all in one place, and they are easy to find (and then probably also easier to see which ones I actually use for later purges)

Yay for more purging!

only 59?!? Congrats on the 83 items leaving!! It’s such a great feeling.

Yes “only” 59 π I seem to remember you have decluttered a few pens here and there yourself π I still have a pile though… but now there is order in my pen madness π (sort off)

Noooooo! Not the colouring pens Anne! Anything but the colouring pens! Don’t you feel lost without them? Or were they just the junk ones you don’t use? I drag my colouring pens everywhere I go. In fact I drag a massive art bag everywhere with me in case I have time to sit and doodle – especially while sitting at my parents house in peace and quiet. Keep up the good work – I am still following your declutter albeit very sporadically!

I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you π I still have a few left.
I have my tiny box off 10 water-soluble Neocolor II wax pastels, 28 Derwent artist colouring pencils, my pocket box of Cotman water colours, 6 of my favourite Faber-Castell PITT artist pens and a bunch of regular writing pens and highlighters… so you might say I kept the brunt of them π 71 to be exact not counting the box of wax pastels and water colours…
You didn’t really thing I would get rid off them all did you π even through looking at the number I’m left with… I should maybe do another cull?
Nah.. probably not… π

π Phew! Excellent! No – no more culls – just lots of lovely creating and more lovely pictures!

I was already reading and thinking “noooo she’s going to throw them away” so from a mum with very productive kids i am very pleased to hear you passed them on to the ones using them!

Off course π Can’t throw away coloring pencils you know π Happily I have several neighbors with kids, so there is no shortage of people that are willing to “help me” use them up π

I wish I could draw/paint or even scribble… but sadly, no π’ that don’t stop me from using colour when I write… or for that sake stop me from trying to draw π
