A screw loose?

My gosh! I have so many tools, way to many tools. I swear I could probably keep the whole neighbourhood with tools πŸ˜‰

Yepp, I’m not your typical girl when it comes to tools. I love walking around in hardware stores. and I’ve been known to have people come rushing over to me, when I walk in. Just because they think it’s so much fun talking to a girl who has some new project up her sleeve, and actually know what she wants and need πŸ™‚

It’s hard for me to part with tools, but I came across this screwdriver set today, that I believe I have used only once or twice. I have another one I much prefer, and that set I even have two off πŸ˜‰

Today this unloved screwdriver set was given to a friend of mine, who surely can get more use of it than me.

A vase or two.. or ten?

I did mention, that I really like flowers and plants, right?

I love surrounding myself with flowers, both indoor and outdoor. So what does this have to do with today’s post? Well, one of the curses with being a little “obsessed” with plants is that, before you know it, you have filled up the house with vases and flowerpots.

So I decided it was time to weed down the amount of vases… How many do I have?

Well, after getting rid of the bunch you see in the picture below, I still… have another bunch, left… πŸ™‚

And yes, as you can see from the keep pile, it’s still waaaay to many πŸ˜‰ But about 6 of them are on “probation”, and if they are not used sometime this year, they will be going! So, hopefully next year I’ll be down a few more πŸ˜‰

But at least for now, 15 pieces of flower related things, are going out-the-door.

Cooked to perfection!

I don’t know what happened to my old trusty thermometer!

All I know, is that it’s showing the wrong temperatures, and it’s made for some interesting cooking lately πŸ˜‰

So I had to get a new one, and having the choice, I chose to go digital.

I have to admit. It makes for a much easier read of the temperature, no longer having to stick my head into the oven for the readout!

And much safer to πŸ˜‰

Bunch of boxes

Can you guess what these are?

I won’t keep you in suspense, these are the boxes an Mac Apple mouse comes packed in. What! did I buy that many Apple mouses? No, not at all πŸ™‚

I came over these in a toss pile at the office a while back, and thought it a great idea to bring them home, so that I could use them for all those little nicknack’s you’ll find in a tool shed. You know nails, screws, nuts and bolts and so on.

So, why are they still laying around all empty?

Well, that is a very good question πŸ˜‰

It looks like my little plan of sorting screws and nails and stuff, isn’t happening any time soon.

And what am I doing with the boxes?

I believe if I ever get around to the shed sorting, I’ll probably end up using more sensible boxes (turns out they arent all that good anyhow) – so today – they’re going into the plastic recycle bin!

Bye, bye guys.

A purse’s life

I’m not much of a purse/handbag person. I’m more of a backpack, bag, computer-bag kinda person πŸ˜‰

Even so, I do actually have a handbag or two. Β Over Christmas I found this cute little handbag at the airport in London, and that’s the one I use these days.

In the name of decluttering and minimizing my stuff, I think I’m going to follow the rule of “one in – one out” in this instance.

Therefore I will say goodbye to a handbag that have served me well for a few years, but who have sadly been tucked in a drawer for the last couple years.

I obviously wont’ be using this one ever again… so out-the-door it goes πŸ™‚

Bye, bye..

A second chance

I love taking photographs, and over the years I have taken thousands and thousands of pictures.

I have a Canon 50D, a proper DSLR, but even so, it’s nice to have a small camera that can easily go into your bag.

Up until last year, I used a small Canon Ixus camera. It has gone with me everywhere, since 2002. Β But last year I swapped it out, for a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30, that gives me a bigger zoom range, than my old Ixus ever did.

I decided to get this, even as much as I loved my Ixus, so that I could have a decent zoom range without having to always drag my heavy DSLR with me.

As a backup, my faithful Ixus was put away in a drawer.

Yesterday though, my Ixus’s life changed slightly, when a friend from US, decided to take it with him, to the other side of the ocean, to keep as his second camera πŸ˜‰

Farewell old friend – I wish you happiness, and I hope the two of you, share as many pleasurable moments as you and I did.

The aftermath

I have a friend visiting from US, and yesterday while watching the latest Star Trek movie on blue-ray, we killed off a bottle of our favourite port (Warren’s Optima 10 year).

I’m not sure it this count as one thing out-the-door, but the reality is that my liquor cabinet now holds one less bottle, and take up a little less space. So in my book, it kinda counts πŸ˜‰

Now if I could just shake this tiny hangover, that would be two things “out-the-door”!

Remind me, not to do any more decluttering of the bar, any time soon, even though it was a fun night πŸ˜‰

Another pile of books

I don’t know if you remember – but early this year in Taking a stab at by bookshelves,Β I wrote about my Read a book program. How I’m planning on reading my way through my books, to decrease the collection I keep.

I read in spurts, either not reading at all, or can’t seem to get my nose out of the books, kinda spurts πŸ™‚

The year started off slow, but the last 6-7 weeks I’ve really gotten into my paperbacks. I have read a bunch of books and so far only one is a keeper πŸ˜‰

That means that today, 18 books are going out of the house.

Well.. that is not strictly true actually, I know my mum reads some of these authors, so I’ve shot her an email to check which ones she wants, before I get rid of the rest. Hopefully in a day or two, some will be on their way to my mum in England and some will be on their way to the paper recycle bin πŸ™‚

As soon as the weather is good enough to start my garden projects, I won’t get much reading done.. Β but for right now at least, I’m on a roll, so I’m hoping for one more pile of books this spring.

I have to admit, it’s hard to let them go, I like my books. But I have checked, and they can all be bought, as kindle e-books, should I want to read them again πŸ˜‰

What about you, how do you handle your book collections?

A bundle of sticks

It’s amazing what comes into the house, under the name of decoration πŸ™‚

I’ve had these bundles of sticks for a while. They looked cool there for a second, but boy, are they dust collectors πŸ˜‰

They can be great for warming (or filling) up a corner or a nook, but right now, I want my space to be clean and uncluttered. And a couple of “dust collecting bundles of sticks” just aren’t cutting it.

So I’m sorry my dears, but I think it’s time you leave the premisses.

PC nicknack’s

I have this “box” full of chargers, hard drives, computer cables, network cables, converters and a whole lot of other computer related nicknack’s. You name it, I’ve got it πŸ˜‰

I just installed a couple of drawers in a Ikea unit – the drawers are going out of production so they put them up on 50% sale! I’ve been thinking about installing some drawers in the unit for the last couple of years, and I realized, that if I was ever going to do this, it was now or never!

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the drawers can not hold as much stuff as the boxes I used before… So a clean up was unavoidable (and desperately needed if you ask me) πŸ˜‰

I pulled all the data related “junk” out of one of the boxes, and went about decluttering… All the stuff in the pile of mess picture came out of that red box, I can not believe how much it held.

I’m sad to say I did not manage to get rid of, as much as I’d like. I always keep all the belonging part to a item, that I own (if I ever give the item away, I like giving it as a complete set), even if I might not strictly need all the parts belonging to the item.

There is still a lot of computer stuff left in the house. But for now at least, there is a small pile of stuff, that is going out-the-door πŸ™‚
