I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the month already.ย As we all know, December is the month of Christmas. With all the preparation and celebration, that entails, it doesn’t really leave much time for any other activities.

Even so, I did manage to squeeze in some moments to spend on other tasks and toย celebrate my blogsย 1 year aniversary! Woohoo!

Since tomorrow is new years eve, I kinda figured I won’t be decluttering any significant stuff these last to days. So I decided to post Decembers tally early ๐Ÿ˜‰

Finally out of here…

Here we are!

Another pile of stuff going out-the-door!

Phew!

Remember I told you (both on October and November tally), about this pile of things I was holding for my neighbour to have a look? Well, we finally managed to find five minutes to look through it ๐Ÿ™‚

This weekend she took of with a couple of boxes with stuff! She didn’t take it all (and I didn’t expect her to) but she still relieved me of probably about 95 percentage of my pile – and I’m ever so happy.

I have to admit, it’s just so much easier to “declutter” when there are people you know, who might find them useful.

And here it is, the stuff she took and a few things extra, my pile of stuff out-the-door – 90 items:

  • 2 magazine holders
  • 3 microwave items
  • 1 ice cube tray
  • 3 plastic boxes to store food in + a box of ziploc bags
  • 1 serving tray
  • 3 candle holders
  • 1 pack of plastic spoons
  • 1 pack of plastic straws (should be a hit with her kids)
  • 2 wine openers
  • 3 wine stoppers
  • 1 huge sport drink reusable bottle
  • 1 reusable lunch bag
  • 1 small porcelain bowl
  • 4 long stemmed wine glasses
  • 1 tea box full of different teas
  • 1 plastic box (the one with an X I’m keeping for now.. I have an idea and if it works I’ll post about it ๐Ÿ™‚ )
  • 1 cut board
  • 1 decorative glass bowl
  • 1 tiny shots glass
  • Bunch of rubber band (bracelets) – count as 1
  • 7 watches (she took a couple for her kids)
  • 18 Christmas decoration items
  • 1 box of decorative tiny apples (Christmas stuff)
  • 3 bean babies
  • 1 head light
  • 1 big storage box (all the stuff she took with her fit in the box – it’s that big ๐Ÿ™‚ )
  • 1 pair of running shoes (another friend took earlier)
  • 2 medium size storage boxes (perfect for her kids toys)

67 itemsย

And then there are some clothing I do not have a photo off, that also went out the-the-door this weekend:

  • 1 pair of jeans
  • 6 bras
  • 7 pantyhose
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • 2 short sleeved bicycle tops
  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 1 pair of dress pants
  • 1 t-shirt

October tally

It’s that time again! That monthly catch up to let you know how I did with my decluttering task last month. And I have to say, I did appalling. As you have probably noticed there wasn’t one single post about things going out-the-door, in the whole month of October, with maybe the exception of my post about shedding some TV time.

That don’t mean that there wasn’t the occasional thing going out-the-door, it just means I didn’t ever get around to write about it, or remember to take pictures of it before it was gone.

It’s hard to remember what all those things was right now, but some of the items I decluttered was:

– papers, magazines and stuff like that, that I’ve been holding on too for a long time = 2 big paper bags worth – count as 1
– stuff in my outdoor storage boxes, and outdoor storage room – like wood, piping, plastic pieces, paint cloth, paint brushes, plastic plant pots and I’m sure.. a few more things. What count to give them? Hmmm.. why don’t we say 1 count per category I remember I was tossing out, that seems kinda fair, since I can’t really prove to you what went out the door – count as 6 items

And then there’s is the stuff I’ve been decluttering out of different rooms in the house, but that are still “stored” in my guest room (for my neighbour to check out before it leaves the house). Those things I will be writing about as they leave the house permanently (hopefully during the month of November)

OCTOBER TALLY of things “out-the-door” = ย 7 items!

Not good, I know.. but I’ll do much better in November, I’m sure, now that I’m done with my kitchen project ๐Ÿ˜‰

Garden give aways!

Before I left for Houston, a few of my outdoor items was moved over to my step-mums allotment. She needed a garden storage box and I had one to many ๐Ÿ˜‰

At the same time I figured I could clear out some more stuff, and she ended up with 3 flowerpots, 2 trays for the flowerpots and one of my Hydrangeas, in addition to the garden storage box.

At the time I totally forgot to take the pictures for my blog ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Today though, I went over to her allotment to pick some apples from one of her apple trees ๐Ÿ™‚ and I figured it was as good a time as any, to show you the things that made it out-the-door (or out-of-garden as it was) before I left for my Houston trip.

I guess.. better late than never.. right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Taking a hike…

I’m doing pretty good on my weekend task of getting rid of one laptop, but since there is such a thing as spending too much time in front of the computer, I decided a few minutes of fresh air might be a good idea.

Needing to grab a jacked to go outside, I looked at the mess in the outerwear closet.. and decided it was time to clean it up a little.

I pulled all my hanging stuff out and sorted it into my four piles: keep, not sure, for guests and out-the-door.

How do I decide what to keep or get rid of? And what do I mean with a guest pile?

Just to explain how I think, I’ll go into the details of my outerwear below:

I have a few extra jackets that I don’t really use, that I have kept. I have found that an extra jacket or two comes in handy when I get guest from other places and they show up unprepared for the weather or the activities we are doing. I’ve decided I’ll only keep a couple, as it seem like most of my friends favour the same jackets ๐Ÿ˜‰ And these will go into a storage box for when they are needed.

Having sorted the guests jackets, I decided to tackle my “own” stuff:

My ski pants (the only ones I have) are going into the storage box until I’m going skiing.

I have a couple warm ski jackets. One is really bulky, and last year I got one that is just as warm, but less bulky. I don’t’ see myself using the bulky, one regardless of how cold it gets this winter, so I’ll be loosing it today.

In December I got two new jackets, a thin down one, for chilly dry days, and a thin rain jacket. These two I can either use as single jackets or double up (great combo). I’ll be keeping them. But I believe my new thin down one, might replace a mid layer jacket I have used for years. The mid layer one I will put in the storage box where I keep my guest stuff and ski pants. And if it don’t get used during 2014, by either me or my guests, it will have to go next winter.

Oh yes, and I have two leather jackets.ย One I haven’t used in the last 6 years.. so the odds of me actually using it any time soon, is like…. not going to happen.ย The other one is fairly new, but I haven’t really used it since I got it about a year ago.ย So what does a girl do? Well, the one I haven’t used, in like forever, is out-the-door for sure. The other one I’m keeping, with the intention to use it this year. If it don’t get used before next winter sets in, you might find a post about it later ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then there is the bicycle jackets that I got in US, a few years back. Have I used them since I got back to Norway? Nope… Off course this could be due to me not really biking any more. But should I start again, I can use either ones of the jackets I’ve keep for guests.

So what about the rest, well, they have been used recently, so they are keepers. Should I find that I don’t use them during the seasons their are meant for in 2014, then I suspect you’ll hear about them sometime at the end of 2014 ๐Ÿ˜‰

So what’s the tally?

8 keep – this includes everything from warm winter jackets to thin summer jackets
2 “allowance” – the leather and mid layer one, that most likely will go out the door later this year
2 guest jackets – if they don’t get used this year, I will evaluate if there is any value in keeping them at all, any more
and 5 tossย
